Rick Warren's Son Commits Suicide

Matthew Warren, the youngest son of Warren and his wife Kay, died after a long struggle with mental illness, according to the statement from Saddleback Valley Community Church in Lake Forest, Calif. The church asked for “everyone to join us in praying for the entire Warren family” on Saturday.
     “At 27 years of age, Matthew was an incredibly kind, gentle and compassionate young man whose sweet spirit was encouragement and comfort to many,” Saddleback Church said in the statement. “Unfortunately, he also suffered from mental illness resulting in deep depression and suicidal thoughts.”
     On his Facebook page Sunday, Rick Warren, said, "Kay and I are overwhelmed by your love, prayers, and kind words."
     Matthew Warren was found dead of what appeared to be suicide by gunshot in his home in Mission Viejo, Calif., said Supervising Deputy Dan Aikin of the Orange County Sheriff-Coroner’s Department. The estimated time of death was 10 a.m. on Friday morning.

Obama Apologizes For "Sexist" Comment

President Barack Obama has apologized to California’s attorney general for commenting on her looks at a Democratic fundraiser. White House press secretary Jay Carney says Obama apologized to Kamala Harris on Thursday night, after he returned from California, for the distraction his comment created. Carney says Obama did not want to diminish Harris’ professional accomplishments and abilities.
     At a Democratic fundraiser Thursday in Silicon Valley, Obama said Harris was “the best-looking attorney general.” Obama also called her brilliant, dedicated and tough. Carney says the two are longtime friends.
     The comment raised eyebrows and lit up news blogs and websites. Some said it was an example of the hurdles that still confront working women.
     Carney said Obama is aware of those challenges and believes women shouldn’t be judged on appearance.”    READ FULL ARTICLE
