The Eyeblink Folk

“I’m not into politics.” “Don’t talk to me about allat mess.” These reactions are typical from Church Folk, some of whom think of this as a political blog, a left-wing version of the conservative right. Many of these same people think this is a gay blog when we’re talking about LGBT issues or a women’s ministry when we’re writing about women’s issues. These are the Eyeblink People, folks who take one glance at the headlines, here, make a snap judgment as to who we are or what we’re about before surfing away to Facebook and online blackjack. I’m leaving it up to everyone to decide what this online ministry is or is not, but third Sundays I’m usually focusing mine and the other contributors’ attention on current events, which often involve politics. While I do not believe the church should organize politically (there is no biblical model for the racist, two-faced, lying “Christian” conservative right), I do believe we, as individuals, are a people who espouse a set of principles and, therefore, have a responsibility to keep ourselves informed so that we can best express our faith in a rational and reasonable way. The alternative is what the “Christian” right does: bloat themselves on propaganda, and spend tithes and offerings on political purposes, which, in my view, is sin.   CONTINUED
